Repair Sharan/Sharan Volkswagen>> Diesel engine>> Shatunno-piston group>> Assembly of pistons and rods
Heat up pistons to temperature 60°C (for this purpose put them in hot water). Find a suitable opravka which enters in a piston finger.

Fig. 429. Removal and installation of a piston finger by means of a special opravka

Hand insert a piston finger into the warm piston and a rod. On fig. 429 it is shown, how the piston should settle down at installation of a piston finger.
At assembly of the piston and a rod it is necessary to observe the following recommendations:
- if reuse old pistons, watch correctness of an arrangement of the markings put with you. At installation of new pistons pay attention to a mark in the form of figures on pistons, i.e. 1/2 or 3/4;

Fig. 423. Shooters showed cast ledges. Languages of loose leaves of bearings settle down on the same party

- cast ledges on a rod and a bearing cover (see fig. 423 ) should indicate towards an intermediate shaft and engine pulleys;
- the mark in the form of number of the cylinder should coincide on a rod and a bearing cover;
- insert lock rings from both parties of the piston and be convinced that they strongly sit in grooves;
- check, whether the piston on a rod freely moves forward-back.

Fig. 430. A cut and an arrangement of piston rings at their installation on the piston

By means of a stripper for piston rings (see fig. 425 ), establish piston rings in turn in grooves. If you have no tool for installation of piston rings, use metal strips (see fig. 426 ). For this purpose establish rings at level of grooves on the piston and, having pulled out metal strips, establish piston rings in their grooves. Check cross-section section of rings before their installation (fig. 430) . Both kompressionny piston rings on the one hand are marked with the words "Oben" or "Tor" and this marking should be visible after ring installation from the piston bottom.
Before installation assembled pistons combine on a pure surface and cover to prevent dust hit on them.
