Pumping of brakes is necessary for air removal from a hydraulic actuator which considerably reduces efficiency of working brake system. Air can get to a hydraulic actuator owing to system depressurization at repair or replacement of separate knots, and also at replacement of brake liquid. To availability of air in a drive of brakes points the increased course of a pedal of a brake and its "softness".
For pumping new brake liquid is required. The Volkswagen firm recommends to apply brake liquid of the FMVSS 116 DOT 4 brand.
Before air removal from brake system be convinced of tightness of all knots of a drive of brakes and their connections, clear a cover and a surface round a tank cover, carefully clear unions for pumping. Pumping of brake system is necessary after each repair of brake system if the hydraulic system of a drive of brakes opened.
Pumping is recommended to be begun with that support which was exposed to replacement or repair. Observe the following sequence of pumped-over brake mechanisms:
- back right support of the brake mechanism;
- back left support of the brake mechanism;
- forward right support of the brake mechanism;
- forward left support of the brake mechanism.

Prevention
During pumping constantly watch level of brake liquid in a tank and support it at mark level "Move".

Note
It is not recommended to apply the liquid merged from system, to tank filling as it is saturated air, has a lot of moisture and, possibly, it is polluted.

Pumping of brake mechanisms carry out in the following order:
- remove a dustproof cap, clear the union for pumping and put on it a rubber hose for liquid plum, and its free end lower in the transparent vessel which has been partially filled with brake liquid;
- ask the assistant to press sharply several times a brake pedal, before emergence of its sharp counteraction;
- unscrew on 1/2 — 1/4 turns the union at the pressed pedal. Continuing to press a brake pedal, force out the liquid which was in system together with air through a hose in a vessel. The pedal of a brake "will leave" in a floor, holding her in this situation, wrap the pumping union;

Note
Watch that the end of a hose was constantly shipped in liquid.

- repeat these operations until the exit of vials of air from a hose will stop;
- add in a tank brake liquid, supporting level about a mark "Move";
- holding a brake pedal in the pressed situation, wrap the union to the full and put on a protective cap;
- repeat operations for other wheels;
- check rubber consolidation of a cover of a tank;
- after pumping add in a tank brake liquid to a mark "Move";
- check tightness of all connections of system;
- make a trial trip during which be careful.
Replacement of brake liquid
Replacement of brake liquid spend each two years. On HUNDRED replacement of brake liquid it is carried out by means of the special device for filling and pumping of brake system. The cylinder of the device is filled with the compressed air under the pressure of about 400 kPas. For replacement of liquid and pumping working pressure of the device of equal 100 kPas is established.
However replacement of brake liquid can be made and it is independent. For this purpose about 2 l of more freshly brake liquid of the specified brand is required.
In order that air did not get to hydraulic actuator system at replacement of brake liquid and the minimum quantity of time for this operation was spent, adhere to the following rules:
- act in the same order, as well as when pumping brakes, but use a hose with a glass tube on the end which lower in a vessel with brake liquid;
- pressing a brake pedal, extort old brake liquid until in a tube new liquid then execute two full courses a pedal of a brake will not seem and, holding her in the pressed situation, wrap the union;
- constantly watch level of brake liquid in a tank and in due time add liquid to level "Move";
- repeat such operation on each brake cylinder in the same order, as well as when pumping;
- after replacement of brake liquid fill a tank to a maximum level and check work of brakes under way the car, being careful.
