Detonation combustion occurs because of too early moment of ignition. The long detonation can lead to serious damages of internal details of the engine. However in modern automotive industry constantly try as it is possible to bring the ignition moment to «early ignition» closer. The system of ignition provides detonation clearing by correction of a corner of an advancing of ignition. She allows to use the maximum corner of an advancing of ignition in lack of a detonation, providing with that high rideable qualities and low fuel consumption. For detonation detection in system there is an electric sensor of detonation combustion (one — for the 2,0-liter engine or two — for the VR6 engine) which is screwed in from below in the block of cylinders and constantly traces process of combustion of fuel in cylinders and registers emergence in detonations cylinders. At emergence of non-uniform blows the sensor (or sensors) informs on this EBU which carries out the following:
- at once defines, in what cylinder there was a detonation and establishes ignition in it approximately on 3 ° later, leaving size of an advancing of ignition for other cylinders former;
- other cylinders keep the same moment of ignition, and the moment of ignition of the "guilty" cylinder is late approximately on 3 °.
- if in the detonating cylinder detonation combustion still remains, EBU detains the ignition moment for 3 °. This process can occur several times at the subsequent working steps of the cylinder;
- only after the detonating cylinder again will earn stably, the ignition moment is again exposed after a while on earlier — at each step of operation of the engine, approximately on 0,5 ° until the initial moment of ignition will be again gradually established.
Receipt of information on detonation combustion in other cylinders is meanwhile possible.
